Dental Bridges Overview
If one or several of your teeth have fallen out, it is not just a cosmetic problem — gaps in your teeth may cause your remaining teeth to move out of position. This may lead to unnecessary tension in your bite, pain when you chew, or even difficulty speaking. A bridge improves the health and appearance of your smile by filling in gaps using a false tooth that is supported by either crowns, dental implants, or both. At The Dental Office Encino board-certified dentists Drs. Alan and Yonatan Howard offer bridges custom made with high-quality materials to help give you back your smile. If you have one or more teeth missing from your smile, schedule a consultative appointment with Drs. Howard and Howard at their practice in in Encino, CA, to get more information about your treatment options with a dental bridge.
"Hands down the best dentist I’ve ever been to, and they offer everything! Dr. Yoni went so far above and beyond that I can’t even begin to describe how thankful I am. The whole office is world class - all of the staff is incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable and the office is completely state of the art and REALLY nice and comfortable. From TVs on the walls to 3D printers in the back and everything in between, you just know walking in the door that you’re going to be well taken care of. After not seeing a dentist for over a year due to the pandemic (and seeing a few lousy ones before that) I decided to come here to take care of a handful of things that I had been putting off - and as of today - after a few visits over the past few weeks - Dr. Yoni and the team finished all of their great work in my treatment plan and I couldn’t be happier. Thanks so much Dental Office Encino and see you in 6 months for my cleaning! HIGHLY recommended - seriously, you don’t need to look for another dentist ever."- J.C. / Yelp / Aug 26, 2021
"The dentists at The Dental Office Encino always listen to me and focus on my needs. They educate me on what work my teeth require and why, in detail. They respect my time, understand my resource circumstances, keep a very clean office, and value me as a patient. They use only updated, top-of-the-line equipment. The staff is the best team I’ve ever seen, plus they regularly follow-up with me. If you’re not using The Dental Office Encino as your dentists, then, why bother..........just sayin’....."- J.P. / Yelp / Jul 21, 2021

"I have literally been to 8 different Dentists in Los Angeles. There has always been something off that made me move on. I finally found Dr. Alan Howard and his son, Dr. Yonatan Howard at The Dental Office Encino and I am happy to say that I am done searching! Dr. Alan Howard is a legend in dentistry and was very helpful and patient with me when I originally met with him about a possible LANAP procedure. He put me at ease and informed me that I wasn’t yet a candidate for the procedure. Instead of trying to sell me on something I didn’t really need, he was honest and suggested an alternative approach. His son, Dr. Yonatan is my regular Dentist now. Don’t let his youthful appearance fool you. He really knows his craft and the technology they use is truly cutting edge. I had several Onlays performed there by Dr. Yonatan and it is amazing how they fabricate the new tooth on site. I have had the Onlays for over a year and they feel stronger than a regular tooth with no sensitivity. I highly recommend an Onlay as it keeps more of the original tooth in tact opposed to a traditional crown. Most dentists don’t do Onlays because the equipment is highly specialized but The Dental office Encino does. My Hygienist Claudia is also highly recommended, very gentle and professional. The office is extremely clean and modern with a spa like environment. The staff is courteous and friendly. There is off street parking for the patients and they send you gentle reminders in advance so I never miss an appointment. I never thought I would say this but I actually look forward to going to the dentist now!"- J.H. / Yelp / Mar 10, 2021
"Love the office atmosphere great staff and professional team especially during Covid I felt all precautions are taken seriously"- B.G. / Yelp / Mar 03, 2021
Best Candidates for Dental Bridges
Missing teeth are not just an aesthetic problem — spaces in your smile may heavily impact the health of your mouth. Your mouth is balanced carefully and missing teeth may affect how well you can use it. With time, gaps may lead to the shifting of teeth, causing problems with your bite (overbite, underbite, crossbite) as well as gum or jawbone atrophy. To place a bridge, the surrounding teeth must be healthy enough to hold the restoration, with good density in the jawbone and gum tissue. Dr. Alan or Yonatan Howard will examine your gums and jaw at your consultation to help you choose the best type of bridge (cantilever, traditional, resin bonded, or Maryland bonded) and material (ceramic, porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, and metal).
What To Expect with Dental Bridges
Once your supporting teeth are filed down to prepare them, Dr. Howard will take digital images and dental impressions so your bridge can be created. A temporary bridge may be used while your custom one is crafted. In some cases, your bridge can be made at our office using the CEREC system to design and make your custom bridge while you wait. As soon as your dental bridge is ready, your mouth may be numbed with local anesthesia. Stronger sedation methods can be discussed for fears, anxieties, or trouble with a gag reflex to help keep you calm during the placement. Your custom bridge will be glued into its position or connected to implants, based on the method you and Dr. Howard decided on at your consult. Dr. Howard will adjust the position of your bridge so it is comfortable and stable.
After your bridge is in place, you should have a noticeable improvement in your teeth's function and appearance. You may schedule a follow-up appointment at The Dental Office Encino to alter your bridge's fit if it feels loose after it is placed. Dr. Howard or an assistant will teach you to care for your dental bridge, including the ways to keep it clean and what foods to avoid. It's important to frequently clean your bridge and mouth because decay can develop under the bridge. If you properly care for it, your dental bridge may stay in place for several years. You need to schedule appointments at The Dental Office Encino to get an annual dental examination and cleaning twice a year. In your examination, Dr. Howard can assess the health and fit of your dental bridge to decide if it should be replaced or repaired.
Bridges and other dental restorations are generally covered, in part, by dental insurance companies. Our office will talk to your dental insurance company to figure out your out-of-pocket expenses. The Dental Office Encino offers several methods of payment, including financing options, that may be reviewed in your consult with Dr. Howard. He will help you choose the best bridge material and type to suit your budget and needs.
