Dental Bridges Overview
If one or several of your teeth have fallen out, it is not just a cosmetic problem — gaps in your teeth may cause your remaining teeth to move out of position. This may lead to unnecessary tension in your bite, pain when you chew, or even difficulty speaking. A bridge improves the health and appearance of your smile by filling in gaps using a false tooth that is supported by either crowns, dental implants, or both. At The Dental Office Encino board-certified dentists Drs. Alan and Yonatan Howard offer bridges custom made with high-quality materials to help give you back your smile. If you have one or more teeth missing from your smile, schedule a consultative appointment with Drs. Howard and Howard at their practice in in Encino, CA, to get more information about your treatment options with a dental bridge.
"I’ve been coming here for years and have always had the best experience! Love everyone on their team! They’re always so professional and the office is always sparkling clean with the best tech. Would give 10 stars if it was an option!"- A.A. / Yelp / Aug 18, 2020
"I am so impressed by this office. I had a terrible tooth ache and the 2 offices I called before couldn't care less. When I called Dr. Howard's office, they were so caring and timely. When I came in for my appointment, I was blown away by the protocols they have in place during Covid. I felt so safe and comfortable in the office. Dr. Y took amazing care of me. He made me a ceramic crown in 1 hour, no temporary and no second visit. I couldn't even tell it wasn't my natural tooth. The technology is out of this world and to be honest, the price was very reasonable for the amazing finished product. I'm honestly excited to come back for my cleaning and regular check up. Thank you so much to the entire office for your hard work!"- D.B. / Google / Aug 19, 2020
"A bit of a background before i begin. :-) My experience with dental offices in general began when i was 5. Yep, 5 years old and already needing fillings. Place this child in a Soviet Russia and you will get a good idea why i have been traumatized by visits to a dentist and carried my anxiety throughout my whole life UNTIL i discovered Dr. Alan and Dr. Yoni’s office!! Words could not decribe my relief and excitement when after my first dental work with them i walked away WITHOUT a locked jaw! And each time some work was needed, there was no pain during or after! And everything was done so quickly and so efficiently! The equipment they have is the top of the line, so there is never a need to wait or to return for the second part of the procedure, everything is done right there and then! The entire team is efficient and knowledgeable! My only regret is that i haven’t found you guys sooner!!! I love how kind and attentive everyone is! I wish i was more verbose in describing how i truly feel about this gem of a dental office, but words fail me and all i can add is that my heart is overflowing with love and gratitude and i will be forever grateful for everything you guys do and the way you do it!"- A.S. / Yelp / Aug 17, 2020
"Grateful. I’ve had a bad experience at the dentist’s office when I was a child and that has made me very nervous as an adult patient. Dr. Alan Howard’s staff was extremely prompt, John at the front desk would text to get me on the calendar or always be available by phone, no long waits. I needed the dreaded root canal, they got me in promptly and Dr. Alan made feel comfortable prior to the procedure and during. I went back for a chipped front tooth and after years of not being proud of my previous "average" job I saw a WORLD of difference with the redone chip in my front tooth. I’m actually showing off my smile now. It wasn’t painful, or nerve wrecking, just a superior job I’m proud of with the correct matching of my natural tooth color which previously they had gotten wrong and I just didn’t know better. Wish I had found them years ago. Go see Dr. Alan, you won’t regret it."- S.Y. / Yelp / Dec 28, 2020
"All year I put off my regular cleanings due to COVID fears, but I needn’t have worried. I visited yesterday and am so glad I did. The staff at the office were vigilant, and the experience reassuring. Also, I’ve had several crowns replaced here in the past few years, and the whole process is done in one sitting! Great work!"- S.F. / Yelp / Dec 10, 2020
Best Candidates for Dental Bridges
Missing teeth are not just an aesthetic problem — spaces in your smile may heavily impact the health of your mouth. Your mouth is balanced carefully and missing teeth may affect how well you can use it. With time, gaps may lead to the shifting of teeth, causing problems with your bite (overbite, underbite, crossbite) as well as gum or jawbone atrophy. To place a bridge, the surrounding teeth must be healthy enough to hold the restoration, with good density in the jawbone and gum tissue. Dr. Alan or Yonatan Howard will examine your gums and jaw at your consultation to help you choose the best type of bridge (cantilever, traditional, resin bonded, or Maryland bonded) and material (ceramic, porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, and metal).
What To Expect with Dental Bridges
Once your supporting teeth are filed down to prepare them, Dr. Howard will take digital images and dental impressions so your bridge can be created. A temporary bridge may be used while your custom one is crafted. In some cases, your bridge can be made at our office using the CEREC system to design and make your custom bridge while you wait. As soon as your dental bridge is ready, your mouth may be numbed with local anesthesia. Stronger sedation methods can be discussed for fears, anxieties, or trouble with a gag reflex to help keep you calm during the placement. Your custom bridge will be glued into its position or connected to implants, based on the method you and Dr. Howard decided on at your consult. Dr. Howard will adjust the position of your bridge so it is comfortable and stable.
After your bridge is in place, you should have a noticeable improvement in your teeth's function and appearance. You may schedule a follow-up appointment at The Dental Office Encino to alter your bridge's fit if it feels loose after it is placed. Dr. Howard or an assistant will teach you to care for your dental bridge, including the ways to keep it clean and what foods to avoid. It's important to frequently clean your bridge and mouth because decay can develop under the bridge. If you properly care for it, your dental bridge may stay in place for several years. You need to schedule appointments at The Dental Office Encino to get an annual dental examination and cleaning twice a year. In your examination, Dr. Howard can assess the health and fit of your dental bridge to decide if it should be replaced or repaired.
Bridges and other dental restorations are generally covered, in part, by dental insurance companies. Our office will talk to your dental insurance company to figure out your out-of-pocket expenses. The Dental Office Encino offers several methods of payment, including financing options, that may be reviewed in your consult with Dr. Howard. He will help you choose the best bridge material and type to suit your budget and needs.
